Owl Shadow Boxes

Materials used: Turkey Feathers, acorn caps, leather lace, black foam, semi-precious round beads & nuggets, card stock, 9×9 black rope shadow boxes.

The first owl face I created was a representation of an owl spirit animal for my Medicine Wheel walking stick during my second year of training with a local Shaman in 2011.

I wanted to recreate the owl faces in a protected environment so I chose shadow boxes as the perfect vehicle for optimal preservation. Each finished creation takes approximately eight hours to complete. Often I will work on 4-6 pieces simultaneously-it saves extra clean up time since feathers are extra messy!

Personally I love making these faces-each one has their own personality, and no two are the same.
